This is the first book in the American Presidents series, edited by Arthur Schlesinger. Schlesinger is probably the premier presidential historian. In this series, which covers all of the presidents from George Washinton to W, he presents biographical sketches of each of those presidents during their terms in office.

In a nutshell, reading the series from beginning to end, the reader gets a complete play by play of major political decisions and life in the oval office from the earliest days of America to the current era.

Schlesinger has assembled the most well-known experts for each president to author the volumes.

Each one is very accessible, around 200 pages, and makes for a fantastic introduction to each of our presidents and their contributions to the growth of America.
