I've said it before and I'll say it again: my kids' hearts are not battlegrounds for pedomarketing wars.
Are there great products out there for kids and are they marketed appropriately? Sure, and these companies deserve kudos. If you have a good product, you're obliged to market it and sell it. But many companies want more from your kids than just a sale.
Susan Linn offers a play-by-play breakdown of some of the most unscrupulous tactics used by the worst of the worst pedomarketers. The book will keep parents riveted, and is also a necessary read for those that work in the field of marketing. Parents are getting wise to these tactics. And sooner or later that wisdom will morph into cynicism -- which means lower sales for companies that continue to hit below the belt.

Synopsis
The million-copy bestseller, now fully up-to-date and ready for post-dot-com investors.Using the dot-com crash as an object lesson in how not to manage your portfolio, here is the best-selling, gimmick-free, irreverent, vastly informative guide to navigating the turbulence of the market and managing investments with confidence. A Random Walk Down Wall Street is well established as a staple of the business shelf, the first book any investor should read before taking the plunge and star... [more]
This is THE definitive map of the ins and outs of Wall Street. From the Federal Reserve to your bank account, every surface of the American financial market is explored and explained by Burton Markiel.
Financial books never sound interesting on the surface, but as Malkiel delves into the gears and cogs that make up the national economy, this book reads like a novel.
Note that this is not a book about investment strategies or how to make a million dollars on Wall Street.
This is the first book in the American Presidents series, edited by Arthur Schlesinger. Schlesinger is probably the premier presidential historian. In this series, which covers all of the presidents from George Washinton to W, he presents biographical sketches of each of those presidents during their terms in office.
In a nutshell, reading the series from beginning to end, the reader gets a complete play by play of major political decisions and life in the oval office from the earliest days of America to the current era.
Schlesinger has assembled the most well-known experts for each president to author the volumes.
Each one is very accessible, around 200 pages, and makes for a fantastic introduction to each of our presidents and their contributions to the growth of America.
Just bought this for my treo 750 (windows mobile) today. The dictionary is stellar. Everything you need from antonyms, synonyms, and etymologies.
Don't put a lot of stock in the "speaking" part of it though. The speech engine is far less than perfect. But that's the case with the other two dictionaries I tried as well.
But if you just need a convenient, carry around dictionary that's about as thorough as the OED, this is the one. Note that a comparable dictionary in print would run about $80 more.

For avid readers who have spent many an hour squinting in dim light, LightWedge created this innovative paperback book light. The book light lies flat on the book page, creating the impression that the book itself is aglow. Designed specifically for mass-market paperbacks, this book light minimizes readers optical duress and discomfort while illuminating each word without distortion or glare. Equipped with LED technology, this book light eliminates the hindr... [more]
Awesome book light that lights up the page -- and only the page. Not like other book lights that light up the page. And the room. And everything else in the room.
