i ordered this as a Christmas gift for my son who is six.  This is the best Batman animated series i've seen in years, surpassing the work of Bruce Timm and Paul Dini on the Batman animated series that ran in the nineties.

The series appeals to old-school Batman fans and kids alike because the producers and writers do a great job of making the content appropriate for younger viewers without diluting the rich mythology of Batman.

The producer, Jeff Matsuda, got his start at image Comics in the early '90s.  it was obvious back then that he had talent and that he hadn't even started to reach his full potential.  i would wager that even better stuff awaits him, but he's developed his style and his storytelling tremendously since then and it really shows in this series.

Highest possible recommendation as a gift for the kid set.

    Description:
Amazon.com essential video Originally broadcast in April and May of 1998, the epic miniseries From the Earth to the Moon was HBO's most expensive production to date, with a budget of $68 million. Hosted by executive producer Tom Hanks, the miniseries tackles the daunting challenge of chronicling the entire history of NASA's Apollo space program from 1961 to 1972. For the most part, it's a rousing success. Some passages are flatly chronological, awkwardly wedging an abundance of fact... [more]

Tom Hanks' 1998 miniseries about NASA's Apollo project is notable for several reasons.  First, it is the rightful -- though unintended - sequel to "The Right Stuff," Tom Wolfe's story of NASA's Mercury missions.  Second, it was then and remains now, one of HBO's most ambitious projects, with a budget of $70 million and some of the best producers and writers in the biz.  For an ensemble cast, it doesn't get any better -- most of the actors have carried their own films and series, but together they are way bigger than the sum of the talent.

This is a must-see series for space buffs.

Normally this series retails for around $60, but Amazon's cut the price to $20.  That's twelve of the best episodes of television ever for $20.  Do the math.  This is one hell of a deal.

    Description:
Amazon.com Arguably the most talked-about television show of the 2006-2007 season, the Emmy-nominated fantasy Heroes gives viewers blends comic book-style adventure with plotting and characters as rich and layered as any graphic novel or drama series. Creator Tim Kring's premise is deceptively simple – ordinary individuals in locations around the globe discover that they have, for lack of a better term, super powers, and wrestle with this reality while facing challenges both gl... Has anybody out there been watching this show from the beginning? I jumped in at the end of last season and it looks good but it's pretty obvious that if you haven't watched from the beginning you're missing a lot.

The price is marked down at amazon.com by about $20 bucks but even at $45 I'd still like to hear if people think it's worth adding to the old DVD collection.
